Playa Jardín
This dark-sand garden beach west of the centre has good facilities, including toilets and showers. Huge boulders and rocks were dumped in the sea here to prevent the sand being swept away.

Parque del Cerro Santa Catalina
At the top of Cimadevilla, this grassy parkland includes Gijóns Elogio del Horizonte , a brutal concrete sculpture by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida that has become a symbol of the city.

Plaza de San Francisco
Plaza de San Francisco has been Sevilles main public square since the 16th century. The southern end of the Ayuntamiento here is encrusted with lovely Renaissance carving from the 1520–30s.

Igrexa de San Martiño
A must-see monument is the Gothic Igrexa de San Martiño , dominating the old town’s Praza do Tapal, with wonderful sculptures of the apostles, Christ and archangels on its western facade.

Torre de Fornells
Watching over the bay at the northern limit of town, the Torre de Fornells , a squat, round defensive tower, was built by the British in 1801. Clamber up to its topmost point for great views.

The 16th-century Palacio de los Ávila y Tiedra boasts one of the town’s most engaging plateresque facades, and its the pick of a handful of fine examples that surround the Plaza del Conde.

Palacio de Govantes y Herdara
The portal of the 18th-century Palacio de Govantes y Herdara has twisted pillars encrusted with grapes and vine leaves. Its 350m west of Plaza Mayor and was once Osunas courthouse.

Castell de Sant Nicolau
West of the town centre, this stout little 17th-century watchtower stands guard at the southern head of the port entrance. Views over the waters to Mallorca and southwards along the coast are stunning.

Puerta de la Justicia
If you already have your Alhambra ticket, you can climb the Cuesta Empedrada path up to the left and pass through the austere Puerta de la Justicia, constructed in 1348 as the Alhambras main entrance.

In Federico García Lorcas birthplace, the village of Fuente Vaqueros, 17km west of Granada, the Museo Casa Natal Federico García Lorca displays photos, posters and costumes for the writer’s plays.

Playa de Rodiles
The beautiful, broad golden sands of 1km-long Playa de Rodiles front the sea at the mouth of the Ría de Villaviciosa, 11km north of Villaviciosa. Surfers might catch a wave here in late summer.
