Gulliver
The diverted Río Turia’s former 9km riverbed is a great playground year-round. Of its formal playgrounds, the giant Gulliver , in the Jardines del Turia, just asks to be clambered all over.

Museo del Enganche
The famous Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre trains horses and riders in equestrian skills. It houses the Museo del Enganche, which includes an 18th-century Binder hunting break.

Museo de los Muralles Reales
A gallery that houses temporary art exhibitions. Squeezed out of the forts unforgiving architecture, its a beautifully designed space, worth visiting irrespective of whats on show.

Museu Puget
A historic mansion with a typical late-Gothic courtyard and staircase that houses 130 paintings by Ibizan artist Narcís Puget Viñas (1874–1960) and his son, Narcís Puget Riquer (1916–83).

Palacio del Marqués de La Gomera
Among the most ornate of Osunas 18th-century mansions, the Palacio del Marqués de La Gomera features elaborate pillars on its facade, with the family shield at the top. Its now a hotel .

Playa La Tejita
Stretching for around1km, this delightful unspoiled beach has a simple straw-roofed bar for drinks and snacks. Its just east of the main Playa El Médano; the first section is nudist.

Cala d’Estellencs
From Estellencs, a 1.5km road winds down through terraces of palm trees, citrus orchards, olives, almonds, cacti, pines and flowers to Cala d’Estellencs, a rocky cove with bottle-green water.

Torralba d’en Salord
Torralba d’en Salord is located 15km from Maó. Follow the signposts and take a left turn off the Me1 to reach this Talayotic settlement, whose outstanding feature is an impressive taula .

Multimedia Display
Within the main building of Can Sol, a complex of former farm buildings, is a highly recommended, sensitively conceived multimedia display illustrating traditional Mallorcan rural life.

Monasterio de Santa María del Parral
Ring the bell to see part of the cloister and church; the latter is a proud, flamboyant Gothic structure. The monks chant a Gregorian Mass at noon on Sundays, and at 1pm daily in summer.

Playa de Cueva
Sandy, 600m-long Playa de Cueva, 7km east of Luarca on the old coast road (N634), is one of the best beaches in the district, with cliffs, caves, a river and occasional decent surf.

Iglesia de San Pablo
Has a Renaissance facade and an enormous plateresque altarpiece in the main chapel.

Galería Antonio Machón
A delightful gallery dedicated primarily to painters with the occasional sculpture, the Galería Antonio Machón has hosted names as varied as Chema Chobo, Laura Lio and Gerardo Delgado.

Casa de Botines
Antoni Gaudís contribution to Leóns skyline is the castle-like neo-Gothic Casa de Botines (1893); the zany architect of Barcelona fame seems to have been subdued by more sober León.

Castle Complex
The stone walls of the castle complex girdle the hilltop for almost a kilometre. Mostly in ruins, its seven rambling sections each speak of a different period in Sagunto’s long history.

Talatí de Dalt
At this Talayotic settlement, 3km west of Maó, the roots of wild olive trees force apart the weathered stones of the large central talayot . There’s also a particularly well-preserved taula.

Playa de Los Cristianos
This 1km-long taupe-coloured sandy stretch is the main beach in town and very family friendly with a lifeguard, rows of sunbeds, volleyball net, plus bars, restaurants and ice-cream kiosks.

Playa de la Cueva
Past the port, and accessible via a small tunnel, is the small and pretty, though often windy, Playa de la Cueva. On a clear day, Tenerife seems like it’s within pebble-throwing distance.

Playa Burriana
This is Nerja’s longest and best beach with plenty of towel space on the sand. You can walk here via picturesque Calle Carabeo, continuing down the steps to the beach and along to Burriana.
