Occupying a defunct, graffitied power station beside the giant Älvsborgsbron, Röda Sten's four floors are home to such temporary exhibitions as edgy Swedish photography and cross-dressing rap videos by Danish-Filipino artist Lillibeth Cuenca Rasmussen that challenge sexuality stereotypes in Afghan society. The indie-style cafe hosts weekly live music and club nights, and offbeat one-offs like punk bike races, boxing matches and stand-up comedy. To get there, walk towards the Klippan precinct, continue under Älvsborgsbron and look for the brown-brick building.
Beside Röda Sten, check out work-in-progress The Thing , a communal ‘sculpture’ in the vein of Lars Vilks’ Nimis. On weekends, families head here with hammers and nails to further its evolution.
