Christian IV built Halmstad Slott and the town walls. The latter were demolished in the 18th century, although fragments like north gate Norre Port remain at the northern end of Storgatan. Other medieval attractions include the lovely 14th-century church St Nikolai Kyrka , and the half-timbered Tre Hjärtan building on Stora Torg.
