The Vasa Museum is a naval museum in Stockholm. Located on the island of Djurgården, the museum displays the only intact 17th century ship in the world, the 69 meter (226 feet) long warship Vasa that sank in 1628 on her maiden voyage in Stockholm. Along with other museums in Sweden, such as Stockholm Maritime Museum, the Vasa Museum belongs to the Swedish National Maritime Museums (SNMM).
The museum was officially opened on 15 June 1990 and has been seen by over 25 million people, thus touted as the most visited museum in Scandinavia. Exhibitions including articles recovered from the ship, interactive displays and audiovisual mediums tell the tale of 17th century sea battles, life aboard the Vasa, and the operation many years later to salvage the ship.
This legendary maritime museum is a must-see for the nautically-inclined. The Vasa Museum is located on the western side of the island of Djurgården. You can take the 47 or 69 bus to get there.
