The Stockholm Archipelago is the biggest archipelago in Sweden, and one of the biggest (and most magnificent) archipelagos in the Baltic Sea, extending about 60 kilometers (37.3 miles) to the east of Stockholm and spreading over thousands of islands.
Besides Stockholm, the biggest towns of the archipelago, are Gustavsberg and Vaxholm. Voyaging in the Stockholm Archipelago between the many small islands to get to either Åland or Helsinki in Finland is an incredible experience. During the summer with weather permitting, you should enjoy a spectacular sunset from the deck that lasts until late into the evening
About an hour by public transport or car will take you to any of the large islands, and you can continue by boat from there. Perhaps best option, however, is to leave from central Stockholm on one of the classic white ferries to get the full experience. The archipelago is filled with boats in the summer months, an experience not to be missed.
