Smedja Volund
Up the hill is a working smithy, Smedja Volund , with a cafe and a studio displaying Berth the blacksmith’s idiosyncratic ironwork; Berth himself is often at work in the forge.

Falsterbo Museum
Little Falsterbo Museum, at the southern tip of the peninsula, is a pleasing jumble: a small Naturum, old shops and smithies, WWII mines and the remains of a 13th-century boat.

Aschanska Gården
Aschanska Gården is an evocative 19th-century bourgeois house with guided tours at 1pm and 4pm daily July and August (Skr 50), as well as Christmas tours in December (Skr 60).

Axel Ebbe Konsthall

Ettöreskyrkan
The diminutive old church near the train station is also worth a look, nicknamed the ‘one-öre church’ because that’s the amount each household had to contribute to get it built back in 1755.

Take a stroll along Norra Hamnen from here to admire the sleek and attractive apartment buildings and restaurant-bars, which are all part of a very successful harbour-redevelopment project.

Järvsö Kyrka
Completed in 1838, Järvsö Kyrka is one of the largest rural churches in Sweden and it has an impressive location on an island in the river. Most of the island is a wooded nature reserve.

Uppsala Art Museum
Located at the Uppsala Slott entrance marked E, Uppsala Art Museum displays Swedish and international contemporary art and ceramics as well as the art-study collection of Uppsala University.

Laestadius Pörtet
This was the home of fiery preacher Lars Levi Laestadius from 1849 until his death 12 years later. Here youll find many personal objects and an exhibition dedicated to his life and work.

Bronze Age Rock Carvings
Two kilometres west of the city, near the river, await fine examples of Bronze Age rock carvings, with an adjacent museum, Hällristningsmuseet . The site is a 30-minute walk along the river.

Keillers Park
The rocky heights of Ramberget (87m) in Keillers Park give the best view of the city. Get there on the city bus tour or take a tram to Ramsbergsvallen and walk the rest of the way up.

Out at the tip of the Stångenäs peninsula, the Stångehuvud Nature Reserve, crammed with coastal rock slab, is worth a stop for its secluded bathing spots and the wooden lookout tower.

VIDA Museum & Konsthall
VIDA Museum & Konsthall is a strikingly modern museum and art gallery in Halltorp, about 9km south of Borgholm. Its finest halls are devoted to two of Sweden’s top glass designers.

Faktoriet
Faktoriet, on the island Strömsholmen, tells the story of Eskilstuna’s industrial and cultural heritage; it was closed for renovations at time of research, so check with the tourist office for details.

Härnosand Sambibliotek
The regional library, Härnosand Sambibliotek, hosts rotating art exhibits in a cool, cutting-edge building; the stylish cafe inside offers a cheap lunch buffet with vegetarian options (from Skr70).

Gällivare Museum
The Gällivare Museum has exhibitions on the navvies (railway workers), Sami culture and early settlers, plus a collection of local artefacts and the famous Mosquito Museum (relocated from a nearby bog).
