Set in a concrete edifice, this renowned gallery harbours a stunning art collection with works by Picasso, Cézanne and van Gogh, occasionally shifted to make space for blockbuster exhibitions such as 'Matisse en son siècle' (Matisse in his Century), on show until November 2015. Equally outstanding is the garden (with cafe and picnic area) where Henry Moore’s organic sculptures, Niki de Saint Phalle’s buxom Bathers and César's Le Sein (The Breast) pop out among the foliage. The Fondation also hosts classical music recitals (tickets Sfr30 to Sfr120).
Admission includes the collection of Roman milestones, vessels etc in the upstairs Musée Archéologique Gallo-Romain , and the classic cars from vintage Fords to Swiss Martinis (the type you drive, not drink) parked up next to a pile of compressed Volvos by César and a pillarbox-red English telephone box in the basement Musée de l’Auto.
