Seaside Kıyıkışlacık village contains ancient Iasos, a Carian city that was once an island and prospered from fishing and the unique red-and-white marble in the nearby hills. A member of the ancient Delian League, Iasos participated in the Peloponnesian Wars, but later weakened. Nevertheless, it was definitely a Byzatine bishopric from the 5th to the 9th centuries, before being finally abandoned in the 15th century.
Today, the hillside walled acropolis-fortress stands opposite the fishing harbour. Excavations have revealed ruins of a bouleuterion , agora and a Roman temple of Artemis Astias (AD 190), among other structures.
Enjoy fresh fish and good views of the wave-soaked ruins at Iasos Ceyar Deniz Restaurant . If you can't drag yourself away from this blissful fishing village, Ersan Pansiyon has clean, modern rooms, some with balcony surveying the castle. Village breakfast is ₺10.
In summer, an hourly Kıyıkışlacık–Milas dolmuş (₺5) runs from 8.30am to 6pm, less frequently in winter. The village turn-off is marked on the highway between Çamıçı and Milas, 2km southeast of Euromos. Kıyıkışlacık is 20km south of the turn-off.
