Koprulu Canyon

Köprülü Canyon is a national park covering 141 miles sq (366 square km) of forested wilderness and its most famous feature is the deep gorge formed by the River Kopru as it slices down through limestone and sandstone on its journey to Turkey’s south coast. Meandering 14 miles (22.5 km) between dramatic rock stacks and sheer cliffs, in places the canyon is more than 1,312 feet (400 meters) deep and it is famous as one of the best – and most spectacular – white-water rafting experiences in Turkey. Rafting trips start just below Oluk Bridge, which was constructed in Roman times and sits 88.5 feet (27 meters) above the gorge. Although now much restored and surrounded by fish restaurants, it is the perfect spot for views of the canyon and the tumbling turquoise waters of the Köprü. 
Close by, the tumbledown bridge of Bugrum spans the tributary River Kocadere and there’s a sheltered, calm pool for bathing in the pristine water. Other ancient, manmade landmarks around Köprülü Canyon National Park include Selge Antique City, with vestiges of its amphitheater and aqueduct still visible on the hillside. But the real star of the show here is the spectacular landscape of cypress and pine forests, a paradise wilderness for hikers, canyoners, rafters, horseback riders and campers alike.
