Rock Park, the site of the earliest spa development, is a serene forested, landscaped oasis at the centre of the town. The bath house is now a complementary health centre and the pump room a conference centre. Just southeast of the centre is a sedately pretty, tree-encircled lake, built at the end of the 19th century to allow Victorians to take their exercise without appearing to do so. The original boathouse is now a private residence, but you can still rent a boat, fish for carp or take lunch at the cafe. The centrepiece of the lake is a sculpture of a Welsh dragon.
