Built in the early 15th century by the Portuguese, Qala’at Arad has been beautifully restored. There is little to see inside except the old well and the date-palm timbers used to reinforce the ceiling. Nonetheless, the location overlooking the bay makes it well worth a trip, especially at sunset, when the neighbouring park comes alive with locals. From Manama, take the Sheikh Hamad Causeway and follow the signs along Khalifa Al Khebir Ave and Arad Hwy.
