Sprawled out at the feet of the citadel and next to Erbil’s main square, the Qaysari bazaar is one of the largest covered markets in the Kurdish region as well as one of the oldest in the world. It is in the process of being renovated, but is still open to the public. The dark maze of narrow alleys can sometimes get a bit claustrophobic if you are there during its busiest hours. Visitors will find all sorts of different products, from Kurdish chewing gum to fresh cheese, kitchen utensils, jewellery and fabrics.
