This museum captures the horror of the Iraqi invasion and honours the sacrifices that Kuwaiti citizens, the Kuwaiti military and their allies made in order to repel Iraqi forces. The exhibits comprise a set of well-crafted city models that are illuminated in time with an audio recording in English. Despite the nationalist propaganda, the overall experience – walking through the darkened corridors, lit only by simulated gun blasts and mortar attacks – has a contemporary resonance that transcends the exhibit’s narrow remit.
The museum is best reached by taxi and can be combined with a visit to the nearby Arab Fund Building. Alternatively, take bus 13 along Arabian Gulf St to the airport and get off at the steel and concrete headquarters of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). As the road bends sharply inland from here, take the first lane on the left.
