Built during the 19th-century Turkish occupation, this fort has been used as a prison and as an ethnographic museum. During restoration in the late 1970s, however, many of the structure's original features were lost. It's increasingly overshadowed by the redevelopment of the surrounding Souq Waqif and is still in need of a modern mission in life; it was fenced off when we visited as part of work on the souq, so we hope that it will soon receive a makeover.
