Never mind the prospect of lots of tasty seafood, this large fish market is a visual feast of colour, texture and design. Rhythmical arrangements of prawns, orange-spotted trevally, blue-shelled crabs, red snappers, pink Sultan Ibrahims and a host of unlikely edibles from the sea grace the ice bars here.
For a memorable lunch or supper for under Dh20, buy your fish at the market from the folk in blue, and take it to the folk in red in the gutting and filleting station. Take the fillets next door (alongside the dry fish section) and jostle with seafarers for your favourite spices. At the back of the spice area, give your purchases to the cooks, who will make it into a firey-hot Kerala fish curry or simply grill it rubbed in salt and dried chillies. Take the finished dish onto the dhow harbour outside, and sit on a lobster pot to eat it!
