For a more hands-on experience take kids to the Children’s Farm , where they can meet, pat and maybe even feed goats, camels and ducks, or ride ponies or camels (Dh5, weekends only).

Al Safa Park
Large sections of this pretty park have been closed due to the construction of the Dubai Water Canal, the epic project that will link the Dubai Creek with the Gulf at Jumeirah Beach.

Coin Museum
Near the Al Farooq Mosque in the Al Fahidi Historic District, this small museum presents a collection of nearly 500 rare coins from throughout the Middle East, including Egypt, Turkey and Morocco.

Miraj Islamic Centre
Carpets, textiles, jewellery, sculpture and calligraphy are among the artworks from around the Islamic world displayed at this gallery, which also has great views of Emirates Palace from its rooftop cafe.

Art Sawa
One of the Village’s smaller galleries, Art Sawa provides a platform for young Middle Eastern artists but also showcases widely collected established ones such as Syrias most famous sculptor, Mustafi Ali.

Fish Farm
At this fish farm near Khanur, you can buy fresh tilapia, carp and other fish and grill it up at your campsite later on. The turn-off for Khanur is about 20km west of Mezairaa. Ask locally for directions to the farm.

Etisalat Head Office
This iconic 27-floor building, with a golf ball as its crowning glory, makes an excellent landmark for navigating the citys grid system. Built in 2001, it houses the headquarters of the local telephone-service provider.

Qanat al
South of the Khalid Lagoon, popular Qanat al-Qasba is a car-free, lively mix of restaurants, cafes and family-friendly entertainment venues along a canal. Diversions include a Ferris wheel and abra (water taxi) rides.
