It may not be the island’s best-looking beach, but ʻAnini is Kauaʻi’s best spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding. It's just as popular for snorkeling and swimming, too, making it a good fit for families. In addition, it’s protected by one of the longest and widest fringing reefs in Hawaii.
Lying less than 3 miles from the Kuhio Hwy, the park is unofficially divided into day-use, camping and windsurfing areas. Facilities include restrooms, outdoor showers, drinking water, picnic pavilions and BBQ grills.
At its widest point, the reef extends more than 1600ft offshore. Note that the shallows do bottom out at low tide, so timing your snorkel is key, or you may have to step awkwardly around exposed coral and sea urchins on your way in.
Weekends draw crowds; weekdays are low-key.
