You feel like you're sitting on the reef in this secluded spot, so it’s no surprise that there’s excellent snorkeling. To get here, hike the Mahaʻulepu Heritage Trail from Shipwreck Beach or drive 1.5 miles on the dirt road that begins after the Grand Hyatt, turning right where it dead-ends at a gate (open 7:30am to 6pm daily, to 7pm in summer, and strictly enforced). Continue to the parking area, where a trail leads to the beach.
Look out for the sole house on the entire coast, the Gillin Beach House , originally built in 1946 by a civil engineer with the Koloa Sugar Plantation.
