Where Cherry Creek and South Platte River meet is the nexus and plexus of Denver's sunshine-loving culture. It's a good place for an afternoon picnic, and there's a short white-water park for kayakers and tubers.
Head south from here along the Cherry Creek Trail and you can get all the way to Cherry Creek Shopping Center and beyond to Cherry Creek Reservoir. If you go southwest along the Platte Trail, you'll eventually ride all the way to Chatfield Reservoir. By heading north, and connecting to the Clear Creek Trail, you can get to Golden.
