Lagoons

TIME : 2016/2/18 10:49:58

A wide, paved recreational path connects all four lagoons, inviting a lazy stroll from beach to beach. Extremely limited free public beach-access parking can be found at each. The largest and most elaborately landscaped and serviced lagoon fronts the Four Seasons Resort and Disney Aulani.

Both resorts offer daytime beach-equipment rentals of snorkeling gear and such. The rocks that block the open sea from the lagoons are great places for spotting fish. Keep an eye on the kiddies, though – the current picks up near the opening. At dusk a Disney outrigger canoe enters the cove as a conch shell sounds the end to the day. The nearest free parking is north of the Ihilani. The hotels each charge $30 a day for valet parking but will validate if you spend at least an equivalent amount at one of their restaurants – easy to do.

The southern two lagoons are probably our favorite. Though they’re smaller, the water and the sand are just as beautiful, and there are fewer people to contend with. The nearby free public parking is just before the marina at the end of the drive.
