The House of Broel, built in the 1850s, is a bit of a funhouse. The entire two-story building was elevated in 1884 to allow for the construction of a new 1st floor. This was done so that the new owner could throw elaborate parties for his three daughters in a more spacious setting. Current owner Bonnie Broel, a long-time New Orleans dress designer and fashion maven, displays some of her ballgowns as well as her astounding collection of themed, highly detailed dollhouses.
On the tour, note the homes black marble fireplace and the original mirror framed by carved tobacco leaves. As for the dollhouses, the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas includes a lady of the night on a teeny tiny bed.
The house also hosts weddings and other events.
