Offering an afterlife to ‘pest’ grizzlies facing extermination, this nonprofit center grants a chance to see captive wolves and bears if you failed to see any in the park. The indoor bear exhibit is good, and there is an information wall with clippings of recent bear encounters, as well as the latest wolf-pack locations. The daily programs on hiking safely in bear country and using bear spray are excellent primers for the park.
The twice-daily ‘Keeper Kids’ program even allows kids to hide food in the enclosures and then watch the bears sniff them out – fun! Check the website for timings. Admission is good for two days. Here’s an interesting fact: faced with a regular supply of food, the bears here don’t hibernate.
