It's amazing how much information you can stuff into a very small space. Bivouacked in the basement of the Kegoayah Kozga Public Library, Nome's small museum does a commendable job of showcasing the surprisingly interesting history of this isolated town. There are some Native culture displays, but the focus is on the gold rush and Nome’s history in the early 20th century.
Among racks of mining equipment, historical documents and photo albums, you can see the preserved body of Fritz the sled dog, one of the leaders of the famed 1925 race to deliver diphtheria serum to Nome (the inspiration for the annual Iditarod dogsled race).
