Artist Leo Villareal's installation of twinkling LED lights along the western span will make you swear the Bay Bridge is winking at you. In 2013, Villareal strung 25,000 lights along the vertical suspension cables, transforming the 1.8-mile span into the world's largest LED display. The light show runs from sunset-2am nightly until March 2015, shimmering in never-repeating patterns.
The bridge's dazzling distraction is best appreciated when not in the driver's seat. Meanwhile on the eastern span, workers continue to repair bolts and install bike lanes on the eastern span of the bridge, damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
