Near downtown, little Kakaʻako feels far away from the urban jungle. Built over a former landfill, this grassy, hilly park attracts experienced surfers in the morning and picnickers in the afternoon. Inline skaters roll along the rock-fringed promenade, offering clear views of Diamond Head and Honolulu Harbor. It’s not a safe swimming beach, but Point Panic is a killer bodysurfing break. Other tricky breaks let you watch expert board surfers up close. Limited facilities include restrooms, drinking water and picnic tables. Buses 19, 20, 42 and E CountryExpress! each stop about a half-mile walk from the waterfront park.
