Despite the gorgeous scenery just outside of town, there's plenty of human-made distractions in Bar Harbor. Restaurants, taverns and boutiques are scattered along Main St and the intersecting roads of Mount Desert and Cottage Sts. You'll find shops selling everything from wool sweaters and fudge to camping gear, books, handicrafts and musical instruments. Dozens of art galleries of varying quality jockey for business here. The best of the bunch include Argosy , with landscapes and still life paintings by local artists; and Island Artisans , featuring more than 100 Maine glassblowers, jewelers, ceramists and more.
