This scenically rugged stretch of beach is tucked away between two densely vegetated cliffs where Kilauea Stream meets the ocean. There’s no protective barrier reef, so when surf's up, waves can pound. Calm summer days are best for swimming, but beware the rip current from the stream's outflow. Public access is via Wailapa Rd, which begins at the Kuhio Hwy midway between mile markers 21 and 22. Follow Wailapa Rd north for less than 0.5 miles, then turn left onto the unmarked dirt road (4WD recommended) beginning at a bright-yellow water valve.
