On the grounds of the Ranch at Furnace Creek , this museum explains what all the fuss about borax was about, with alluring samples of local borate minerals and their uses; it's in the 1883 miners' bunkhouse. Out back there's a large collection of pioneer-era stagecoaches and wagons. A short drive north, an interpretive trail follows in the footsteps of late-19th-century Chinese laborers and through the adobe ruins of Harmony Borax Works , where you can take a side trip through twisting Mustard Canyon .
