This 13-acre reserve offers an exceptionally well-done nature trail. Proceeding through native forest on a lava rock path, and assisted by an interpretive trail guide, you'll identify 30 species of plants, and see a pit crater and lava flows. The entrance to the park and picnic area is off Hwy 11, just north of mile marker 81.
Uninviting camping in an open shelter with concrete floors is allowed with an advance state park permit, but it's isolated, not always safe and there's no drinking water.
