Seldom crowded, this often-overlooked beauty extends along the shore of a military reservation. Like all beaches in Hawaii, it’s free and open to the public.The water is usually calm and good for swimming, but it’s shallow at low tide. When conditions are right, windsurfers, bodyboarders and board surfers all play here. Usually open daily, beach-hut concessionaires rent bodyboards, kayaks and snorkel sets. A grassy lawn with palm trees offers some sparse shade, an alternative to frying on the sand.
