The organization responsible for much of Galveston's ongoing preservation and renewal has information at its headquarters in the 1861 Customs House. It also has a tiny visitor center in an 1875 building. Be sure to get the $1 walking map of the Strand as well as discount coupons for the foundation's many attractions. Also, watch for the reopening of the foundation's Galveston County Historical Museum, which had been at 2219 Market St. Ike dealt this building a possibly fatal blow.
