This most recent addition to the Smithsonian fold covers the diverse African American experience and how it helped shape the nation. The collection includes everything from Harriet Tubman's hymnal to Emmett Till's casket to Louis Armstrong's trumpet. The institution is constructing a brand-spankin' new building for the museum, to open in 2016. In the meantime, find exhibits from the collection on show at the next-door National Museum of American History (on the 2nd floor).
