When it opened in 2008, everyone held their breath hoping that the new home of the Washington Nationals (DC’s Major League Baseball team) could serve as a cornerstone for regeneration in tough Southeast. Finally, it seems to be happening. Newly built Yards Park attracts locals to sculpted public spaces along the river, and several new bars and restaurants have opened around the ballpark. Meanwhile, fans of all stripes continue to flock in for well-played baseball games.
