On the southern edge of the historic district, this Smithsonian outpost is an excellent, interactive and comprehensive look at textiles and their role in American history. The permanent exhibit is Textile Revolution, which highlights the advances made by textiles and technology. Appropriate for a textile museum, the exhibit is very hands-on, encouraging visitors to touch fabrics, work looms and even design clothes.
The museum is two long blocks south of Market St.
