Popping up shortly after mile marker 14, this lookout offers a view deep into Hanapepe Valley, where the red-clay cliffs are topped by wild green sugarcane. This sight is but a teaser for the dramatic vistas awaiting at Waimea Canyon.
While the sugar business has faded, Hanapepe Valley remains an agriculture stronghold with grazing cattle and local farmers growing taro. Look makai (seaward) across the highway and you'll see the region’s cash crop: coffee.
