Posed in fighting form outside East Honolulu Clothing Company in Waimanalo Town Center is one of Waimanolo's most famous sons. Chad Rowan was born here in 1969 and went on to make history by becoming the first non-Japanese-born sumo wrestler ever to reach yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo. At 6ft 8in (203cm) in height and a hefty 514lb (233kg) in weight, Akebono was a yokozuna for eight years, winning 11 championships before his retirement in 2001.
