Built in 1807 atop Munjoy Hill, this seven-story brick tower was originally used to warn Portlanders of incoming fishing, military and merchant vessels. Now restored, the observatory has stunning panoramic views of Portland and its harbor. Admission includes a 45-minute guided tour of the observatory. From late July to late August, special Thursday night sunset tours offer views of the sun setting behind the White Mountains.
