Quite. The road ends where the lava says it ends, having swamped this coastal section of Chain of Craters Road repeatedly between 1969 and 1996. The 'Road Closed' sign, almost entirely buried in lava, is a classic photo op. There's a simple info board and portable toilets, plus a ranger outpost – but don't count on it being staffed unless lava starts flowing again within hiking distance.
