South of Cimarron on Hwy 21, the country’s largest Boy Scout camp spreads over 137,000 acres along the breathtaking eastern slope of the Sangre de Cristos. Only scouts can trek the trails, but anyone can drop into the Philmont Museum , which offers tours by arrangement of Villa Philmonte, the Spanish Mediterranean mansion of oil baron Waite Phillips, Philmont's original benefactor.
