Near the dirt parking area for Ka Lae is this ancient temple and fishing shrine where Hawaiians left offerings in hopes of currying favor for a bountiful catch. A standing rock below the heiau is pocked with canoe mooring holes. Enterprising ancient Hawaiians would tether their canoes here with ropes, then let strong currents pull them out into deeper waters to fish.
