Located in the Carnegie Library building at Mount Vernon Sq, the Historical Society has an extensive collection of books, photographs, maps and other archives. The bit that's open to the public is on the 2nd floor in the Small-Alper Gallery. It's a quick-see, but intriguing, exhibit that traces DC development over the years through artworks and photos.
