The San Antonio Zoo is known for its conservation programs, which have given it one of the largest endangered-animal collections in the country. Overall, 9000 animals (750 different species) call this 56-acre zoo home.
Note: This isn't a good place to spend a hot summer afternoon; come early or late when the animals aren't inside escaping the heat.
