The Denali area abounds in fascinating geological features, from majestic glaciers to the easy-to-overlook thin ridges of silt, sand and gravel known as eskers. These deposits, once contained by glacier walls, remain as elongated mounds after the ice melts and around Mile 59 the highway actually runs on top of one.
