At Mt Zion Cemetery and the connected Female Union Band Cemetery are the crumbling, overgrown headstones of many free black residents. The United Methodist Church hid escaping slaves in a vault here. Look for the road leading into the graveyard just west of the building at 2531 Q St NW.
