This sturdy, five-sided fort, with 26 vaulted rooms, was completed in 1834. Exhibits in rooms near the entrance spotlight the fort's construction as well as the daily lives of soldiers stationed there. The fort, constructed from brick and stone, changed hands twice during the Civil War.
