The heart and soul of downtown Boston, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a bustling complex of restaurants, food stalls, shops, bars, and public spaces. Since it opened in 1976, this festive market and eating center draws both visitors and locals to its cobblestone plaza, teaming with shoppers, street performers, and people-watchers.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace itself if comprised of three historic 19th century buildings. Quincy Market, a three-level Greek revival-style building, sits in the center behind Faneuil Hall. Next to it is the North Market building and the South Market building.
Quincy Market is where most of the action is. Inside, the Colonnade has some 30-plus food stalls, selling everything from exotic coffees, fresh seafood, baked breads, and salads. After you get your food, you can take a seat at one of the tables in the central rotunda. On warm evenings, tables spill outdoors from restaurants and bars fill up with people, creating a festive mood. You’ll also find more than 40 restaurants and an intoxicating mix of chain stores and unique shops.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is bordered by the financial district, the waterfront, and the North End. The market is easily accessible via the MBTA subway, or the T. In the plaza between the South Canopy and the South Market building is an information kiosk.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is also a well-traveled part of Boston's "Freedom Trail." The market is a five-minute walk to the New England Aquarium, The Children's Museum, The Old State House, and Paul Revere's House. Other nearby attractions include The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Public Garden, Old North Church, and Fenway Park.
