Squaw Valley

High in the Sierra Nevada and host of the 1960 Winter Olympics, Squaw Valley was the first place in the U.S. to ever host organized skiing. A huge and ritzy ski area on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, today it’s known as one of the world’s best resorts, attracting dedicated skiers and well-heeled Californians who come for both the mountains and the après-ski fun. 
The most famous runs at Squaw Valley are KT-22 and Granite Chief, and in total there are 270, trails, 43 lifts and 6,200 acres of terrain to explore. Squaw Valley is an all-year adventure playground that’s home to yoga and music festivals in summer, and the village itself has over 50 restaurants and 40 shops. The village also has its own spa and plenty of lodging options to choose from.

Seven miles from Tahoe City off Highway 89, Squaw Valley is located off California State Route 89, about 12 miles south of Truckee. The closest city with a major airport is Reno in Nevada, about 32 miles east of Truckee. The ski season is generally mid-November to mid-May. A full-day pass costs $79, while rentals cost $39 to $49 per day.
