If you've just arrived in Barbuda, head to the ArtCafe for the scoop on latest island happenings plus a home-cooked meal and delicious cocktails. Owned and run by the charismatic Claire for more than 25-years now, she is the go-to authority on not only the history of Barbuda, but also what's going on when you're visiting. The small, low-key café dishes up a rotating menu, depending on what is available that day, and to eat you must call ahead (+1-268-460-0434) and book in advance, so they go out and purchase ingredients. It's well worth the phone call, however, as Claire is a talented cook, whipping up delicious salads, crepes, and seafood among others. They also do a range of cocktails, many focused around local rum. Finally, should you be in the market for handicrafts, this is a great place to stock up on presents. Clair is most known for her silk paintings and hand-painted t-shirts, but other local crafts are also on sale in the gallery portion of the shop. You can also email in advance about volunteering on the island while visiting if this is something that interests you.
