Caye Caulker Marine Reserve
Located a half mile east from shore, the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve has been protected since 1998. There is an abundance of marine life here, just as much as Hol Chan Marine Reserve though in a smaller space.
Dozens of stingrays and nurse sharks rush to and circle arriving boats, a practice that began years ago when fishermen would come to this part of the reef to clean their catch. There are gorgeous corals, too and given the smaller number of tourists, it is a more intimate experience than Hol Chan. North of the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve is an area where manatees mate every year around the summertime and more than two and three can be spotted.
Practical Info
There is a US$5 park fee to visit the marine, usually included in the tour fee.
